SOLAR DE VILAR

A Litle bit of History...

Edificio Barroco, built in the 18th century, in 1785 by José Baptista Pimenta Correia, from Aldeia de Vilar de Besteiros, who hired Manuel Ferreira, master mason for “770,000 réis”. This master mason worked with the famous architect Nicolau Nazoni in Lamego. Nicolau Nazoni, the same architect of the Palace of Mateus, Palace of the Freixo, Tower of Clérigos, among others.

The chapel of Solar de Vilar was completed in 1814, with the new administrators of Tomás Jacinto Pimenta Teles and his wife, D. Maria Brizida Mascarenhas Mancelos.

This Solar is linked to one of the greatest dramas and struggles between families of the XIX century, having arrived at the court of Queen D. Maria II and which resulted in the book “As meninas de Mascarenhas”
